In the wide range of social questions which are now under the consideration of Parliament none excite in a greater degree the sympathy and interest of men of all parties than the mansided problem of education and the hardly less difficult problem how to relieve biold age pensions and otherwise the sufferings and anxiety of the aged poor. [...] Photographs show the raw material with which the schools have to deal —children neglected by their parents dirty tattered undisciplined exposed to the worst tempttions of the street Other parts of the exhibit show the careful course of discipline and instruction through which the boys and girls have to pass the corporate life of the schools the attention paid to cleanliness and exercise [...] The English precedent set by the Education Act of ino2 of organising education as one of the administrative functions of the Borough or County Council is not followed But the election'to School Boards is assimilated to the method ofelecting County Councils by the abolition of the cumulative vote which was a device for the protection of small minorities. [...] On the other hand some Roman Cathefics object to the Bill on the ground that the Bishops have not sufficient control over the Senate of the new University which is planned to meet the needs of the Catholics. [...] The last lesson of the subject which is also the last lesson of the book is on 'Plague' and differs from the remaining lessons of the book in its exclusive use of Persian and Arabic words.
