We publish on another page a letter from the Secretary to Government Educational Department to the Registrar of the University of Bombay for the early consideration of the Senate of the University wherein it is pointed out that it is now possible to make a beginning in the establishment of a Central Institute in Bombay for the teaching of Science." [...] Fourthly the financial terms for the transfer of voluntary schools and the schedule of grants payable to schools which would lie outside the control of the lo:.al education authority were not disclosed by the Government until within a few hours of the introduction of the Bill. [...] The practical inference which may be drawn from these considerations is that the more exclusive party in the Church of England were in the inteests of the religious life of the community precipitate in the opposition which they offered to the main lines of the compromise agreed upon by the Archbishop of Canterbury the leading Nonconformists and the great mass of moderate Churchpeople.
