And the policy of public bodies is affected in the long run by the temper of the mind of the constituencies. [...] The pupils will all this time have been familiarising themselves with the neighbourhood and will know the direction of the main roads the appearance of the river the hill the fort or whatever striking object there may be in the neighbourhood. [...] The chief causes for the slow progress of female education in this country are (r) conservatism of a great portion of the people GO the fact that the education of their female children is a matter of great indifference to a large proportion of parents and guardians as they usually do not take the same amount of care and interest in the education of their female wards as they do in that of boys ; [...] The cultured leader of the House of Commons the Right Hon'ble A. J. Balfour says Do not let it be supposed for one moment that the commercial developments the great phenomena of trade of the production and distribution of wealth of taxation of commerce of all the great national and international facts which come under the study of the scientific political economist do not in themselves furn [...] The scope and extent of eduction that a young man should have received at College by the time he takes the Bachelor's Degree in Commerce would be neither more nor less than the training received by the Bachelor of Arts the Bachelor of Science the Bachelor of Engineering the Bachelor of Medicine or the Bachelor of Laws.
