NOMINATIVE 1. The Nominative is the case of the grammatical subject and as such it does not necessarily indicate the actor or the agent as in the passive construction : e. g. adbldr va idam sarvam Uptam every thing here is surrounded by waters ( SB. In the second type of impersonal verbs an indefinite or a relative pronoun is put in as the subject for the satisfaction of grammatical instinct : tatva idam vyaucehat then it dawned352 Annals of the Bhandarkar Institute ( TS. [...] Cognate accusatives depend on the verbs or on the context and their meaning ; and as the temporal and spatial accusative is but a development of the cognate ace this latter also can be said to depend on the verb or the context. [...] Panini's definition of the case is this ( 1.4.41 ) " the accusative is the case of that which the agent wishes particularly to attain by the action ( katrur ipsitatamam karma ) Many uses of the ace. [...] To denote the goal or the direction of an action is one of the primitive functions of the accusative ya eti janaiam who goes to the assembly ( TS.
