The scope was subsequently enlarged and the idea of preparing a complete Check List of the Fishes of India Burma and Ceylon was taken up. [...] The southern limit has been fixed a little below the Equator so as tO include the Addu Atoll the Bay of Bengal and a part of the Indian Ocean to the south of it. [...] The first part of the Check List " deals with the.Elasmobranchii and the Holocephali or the Sharks Skates Rays and Chimaeras of India Burma and Ceylon. [...] Misra has listed 109 species of these fishes from within this area 106 of the Elasmobranchii and 3 of the Holocephali ; Day recorded only 69 species of the former and none of the latter. [...] The first is the original reference with the type locality and as far as possible the name of the institution where the type is deposited ; the others are with respect to the confines of our region.
