4. THE MITOCHONDRIA The mitochondria in the early stages form a juxta-nclear mass in the same way as the Golgi bodies do. [...] We are of opinion that both the Golgi bodies and mitochondria in the early stages of development of the oocyte occupy the area generally known as the idiosome or yolk-nucleus of Balbiani.
