The science of nutrition has made gia nt strides during recent years and the whole of the new information has to be harnessed in determining the nature of the food and the method of its transport and supply. [...] The Scientific Advisory Committee " as Sir William Bragg said in his presidential address to the Royal Society on November 3o 194o "is particularly well-fitted to watch all occasions and opportunities for the employment of science in the service of the nation and also for the continuous encouragement of their employment." The stress of war and the formtion of public opinion in the right dir [...] While taking due note of the role of these Dominions as the supplier of goods for India neither the economist nor the businessman can afford to be bamboozled into the idea that all the war-requirements of India the Persian Gulf region Western Asia and NortEast Africa up to the Easter Mediterranean or of Burma and the Chinese and Far-Eastern or South Asian battlefields can be first manfact [...] In other words although neither the industrialization of India nor the promotion of economic autarchy in India belongs to the terms of reference of the Eastern Group Conference the expansion of India's industry and commerce technocracy and capitalism can be depended upon as one of the inevitable consequences of the projects likely to be taken in hand according to its suggestions. [...] The first is the question of organising the Institute on the co-operative principle by requiring participation of the borrowers theselves in the share capital of the lending institute to an amount equal to a fixed percentage of their borrowings and also demanding their joint and several liability upto a certain percentage of the loans granted.
