[...] As an example of Hindu toleration 1 may allude to the history of the Parsis who are the descendants of the ancient Persians who emigrated to India on the conquest of their country by the Arabs in the 8th century. [...] This feeling operated from the emperors on the throne of Delhi when in the very plentitude of their power down to the lowest chief : and it is from its action combined with that influence which the wealth and qualities of the Hindus obtained that we are in a great measure to account for the easy establishment and long continuance of the Mahommedan power in India.
