If the economies of large scale production and the artificial stabilization of prices at a point which is higher than the competition level but still not beyond the reach of the consumer fail to give the dry zone farmer the margin of profit which is necessary to attract capital the State will have to consider whether it should not turn capitalist as an alternative to defection from the policy of [...] The most characteristic symptom of the leaf-curl which occurs in Peradeniya and which forms the subject of the present communication is the abaxial curling of the Jeablade. [...] The grade of the furrow depends on the amount of percolation losses expected at the head of furrow and the time required to get the necessary depth of water. [...] With a perennial crop like tea in winch the period of lag between the application of capital to the crop and the sale of the finished product is often considerably longer than is the case with other crops one of the primary necessities is to prolong the life of the crop so that the capital expended on it is spread over an economic period of profitable returns. [...] The greater the slope of the land the longer the length of the slope and the more often the surface soil is cultivated or stirred the greater will be this loss.
