The veto of the Shastras in the Social and the veto of the Vedas in the relgious spheres are absolute and undisputed bthe great mass of the people of India. [...] In the social and religious spheres the Veto of the Past paralyses the activities of the Present and the life deprived of all chance of exercise is anaemic and debilitated. [...] The mornings will be devoted to study prayer meditation devotion on the banks of the Ganges or in the asrama discussion of ques4ons of religion and philosophy in the company of the good and the wise. [...] The afternoons will be spent in the exposition of one of the sastra s relating to higher thought by Pandits and Sadhus and consideration of the points expounded the evenings in quiet stroll or meditation on the banks of the Ganges and the night in prayer. [...] Such was the object of the Hathas and Asramas of old and such is our object in the Ramasrama which will always be at the service of the student of religion and philosophy as well as of him who wishes to devote his life to the cause of religious truth and realization of the highest end of man 656 THE INDIAN REVIEW.
