As a result of tine closiqg of the mints to silver and the absolute stoTlege of the coining of rupees the exchange value of the rupee began to rise ; silt agitation was reared up fur the return to the free coin:tau of silver it was advancedos an argument tic it the regulation of exchange by the Govermileth I►as agallusttl'e fundamental laws of Economics. [...] The Viceroy enjoyed the brilliant scene of the lighing and illumination of the Rock Fort and only regretted the absence of Lady Hardinge to coplete the pleasure of his sojourn in TriChinopoly. [...] The first visit of the Viceroy to the capital of the Southern Presidency was hailed as an opportune moment for the exprelsion Of the sentiment of horror and detestation with which the entire people viewed the dastardly crime of December last. [...] Besides the Patna University of which His Excellency is the founder the Viceroy linked himgelf more closely with the prospects of Behar by laying the foundation stone of the Behar Legislatioe Coungil and the High Court—two insttutions which will play an enormous part in the future of the new Iovince and with which His Excellency's name will be inextricably 'associated. [...] Bahadur WAS 'king in daylight close to the shore and to the city o Diu in the presence of thousands of spectators and in the vicinity of the Portuguese fleet.
