Beginning with the crash of the Austrian credit—Anstalt—which was signal for the world financial crisis just in the manner the crash in Wall Street at the close of the speculative boom was signal for the world economic crisis which began in the autumn of 1929 in May 1931 it has now spread over nearly threquarter of the world. [...] Article 25 of the Covenant of the League of Nations reads as follows : The members of the League (of Nations) agree to encourage and promote the establishment and co-opertion of duly authorized national Red Cross Societies having as purposes the improvement of health the prevention of disease and the mitigation of suffering throughout the world. [...] A S. IMPROVEMENT of the sanitary and economic conditions of the rural areas is no doubt necessary for the revival of the old village life but the cultural status of the villages should also be raised at the same time. [...] Indeed a fuller recognition of the economic interdependence of nations the certain result of the confidence gained by the nations during prolonged world peace must inevitably bring an international exchange of information which will economize national effort and add considerably to the general wealth of the world by the gradual increase of the purchasing power of civilized and uncivilized comm [...] But the author has very skilfully managed to discuss briefly but adequately the outstanding aspects of modern life like the distribution of wealth and property the influence of the Press the forms of Government War and Peace the ideals of education and a host of other things.
