The Committee recently appointed by the B. and O. Government to enquire into the causes of the frequent disastrous floods in the plains of Orissa have come to the conclusion that the reckless destruction of forests in the hills of Chota Nagpur and the consequent denudation are the chief factors in the causation of such floods. [...] The excavation of huge irrigation canals like the Ganges canals which are mighty rivers in themselves have lessened the flow and lowered the level of the headwaters of the deltaic rivers in Bengal with the consequent loss to the prvince ; it happened in the past. [...] In the past the progress of the world nations has been along the path of conquest--indeed the conqueror was the dominant and determining force in the making of empires—but the successful imperialism of the future belongs to the nation which can give to the world constructive service in commerce and trade generally. [...] The Mathnawi is described as the Qurani Pahlawi or the Quran of Persia also as the Bible of Persia but while expounding the esoteric doctrines of the Quran and the mystical teaching of the great masters it provides for the general reader instruction and entertainment in the form of simple tales and fables anecdotes and * Tales of Mystic Meaning. [...] And the answers to them facilitate a consideration of the arguments of those who have supported and opposed the standpoint of the Federation as the differences have been in the main in respect of the answers to those two questions.
