Racial interests in India are by many people spoken of euphemistically as economic interests ; but the thoughtful and philosophic statesmen who are inspired by the single'; den of the good of the governed are expected to acquire a clearer and more comprehensive vision of the diverse aspects of the character of the people than the members of the commercial community who regard only one of these [...] It is this so-called " conspiracy " beween the rulers and the ruling race which has invested the latter with a power which is in no way inferior to that possessed by the rulers theselves and which threatens to be broken by the impending increase of the Indian and the decrease of the European element in the superior Civil Services. [...] For instance the sense and sentiment the ideals and aspirations the strivings and sufferings the hopes and despairs the weals and woes the sympathies and charities the cutoms and religion the social and domestic bonds etc make up the sum total of human life as an organic part of society. [...] The conicivaasy over the manifesto issued in the name of -itnil un Windt ul the nuBrahmin communities of the Madras Viosidency must still be fresh in the memory of the newpaper reading.public and the attitude of the Zamiudius' Association ut Madras towards the question of.Hunte Rule is too recent an event to requite any special mention or criticism.
