The youthful matric or for the matter of that the youthful graduate bravely puraues the feeble flickering will o' the wisp of clerkship or teachership till the latter sudenly disappears in the void and leaves the pursuer in the desert of sorrow and disappointment. [...] The fallacious notions of dignity and respectability born of the undue importance that we have attached to purely literary instruction will sooner or later have to go and the manual labourer adding to the total wealth of the country will have to be be ranked on an equality of status with the brain worker who though indispensable in the interests of the body politic is after all a consumer an [...] The important thing is to allow the child to have responsibility ; to do things alone to take care of himself and to be independent to make choices and decisions to plan and carry through his plans to stand by them and experience the consequences. [...] This condition is the result of the Indian mentality which expects the teacher-class to be a class of ascetics a class of men who have little interest in the comforts of this world doing the work of teaching for its own sake. [...] Would it not be wise to examine with the same care the cheapest offer from a teacher ? May it not be that he is a CHEATER and not a TEACHER ? But admitting the truth of all this where can we get the funds necessary for paying our teacher more ? The question does arise at this juncture but I would not take the time of the readers in dilating upon the ways *id means.
