1932

The Universities can hardly now shape the policy of the Intermediate Board or modify the syllabus of the various examinations Conducted by the Board except indirectly through their representatives in the Board None of the three provincial Universities conduct any admisior examinations of their own for candidates who want to join the 'Universities here as the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge [...] We do so for the future of the country which cannot take its rightful place among the nations of the world if the highest educational efficiency cannot be ensured and we also claim to do it for the welfare of humanity in general for the spread of good education is one of the best guarantees fair the peace and welfare of mankind. [...] If the dreams of universal peace and brotherhood entertained by prphets and teachers from the beginning of the history of the world are going to It realised through the League of Nations it will be by carrying the message to the children of the future more than even by the confablations of statesmen and politicians assembled at annual gatherings in Geneva. [...] It is necessary again that History should be taught not only as a mere string of battles And an ugly record of mutual destruction of the nations of the worlds but also as an account of the progress of civilisation and the achievements of the great benefactors of humaiiily. [...] In laying down the precise form of the contract it is good to remember that there is a certain amount of inequality between a teacher who is an individual and the school which is the nature of a powerful corporatil and everything must be done to safeguardthe interests of the former wIfo is the weaker party in the agreemett.
