As we before remarked if the majority of the examiners are not interested in the results the presence of a minority of teachers is necessary if the public are to have confidence in the results of the examination. [...] The adverse miority at the division was composed for the most part of those who were obviously interested in maintaining the strength of the Arts Colleges—to wit the two Members of Council the Direcor of Public Instruction and the Principals and Professors of Arts Colleges. [...] Taking the-percentage of male and female pupils to the repective population of the school-going age for the Madr.as Presdency which is given as 24.8 and 4.0 respectively for 1894-94 we observe that while the percentage of male pupils to that of the male population of the school-going age in Bengal is 28.6 the corresponding percentage of male pupils is only one-half of that in the sister Pr [...] The real remedy for the state of things so strongly described in the report lies in " the influence and example of the teachers themselves in the first instance to the extension of hostels under superintendents of high moral character and to the strict enforcement of discipline." An interesting table shOwing the number of hostels attached to the colleges and schools of the Presidency is introduc [...] Of the natural progenitor and the teacher who imparts the Veda to him the giver of the Veda is the more venerable father ; for it is the new existence which he has acquired by his initiation in the Veda whieln.
