Unless adequate steps are taken for the strengthening of the teaching of English in High Schools the concession of using the vernacular as the medium of instruction and examination at the High School Examination is bound to affect adversely the teaching work of the Intermediate classes. [...] as the maximum when the work is entirely in the Intermediate classes and it may be allowed to be extended to twenty-four only in cases in which the bulk of the work is in the school. [...] The results of the experiment of the Osmania University which is trying to impart instrution through a vernacular should be awaited so also the success of the reform in certain provinces of allowing candidates the option of answering questions in the vernacular at the High School examination.
