The properties of this xylene extract on comparing with those of the crude Montan wax of Germany and the Ester wax of Devonshire are found to be similar. [...] Properties of the xylene extract.—In Table III are given some of the properties of the xylene extract of South Arcot lignite in comparison with those of the Montan wax of German lignite and the Ester wax of Devonshire lignite4. [...] However attention has to be drawn to the work of Cawley and King4 who mention that the properties of waxes are greatly modified by the choice of the solvent and temperature of extraction. [...] Increase of electrolytic concentration furnishes more metallic ions and consequently increases the rate of nucleus formation and reduces the evolutionELECTRODEPOSITION OF AN ALLOY OF COBALT AND TUNGSTEN 1 1 of hydrogen at the cathode. [...] The darkening of the deposit at high current density may be attributed to the alkalinity produced near the cathode due to evolution of hydrogen and subsequent formation and inclusion in the deposit of hydrous oxides and basic salts.
