It was published in the last Sunday Mirror signed by two leading members of the Brahmo community who distinctly state that they have written with the sanction and under the direction of the minister so that our statement may be taken as given by himself." The delay in submitting it to the Brahmo public is attributed to the necessity of allowing the irritation of feeling occasioned by the marr [...] What we desire to do is to direct the attention of the higheet authorities to the special grievances of the officers of the Army Medical Department. [...] The rule of the Turk in Europe is well nitrh terminated and both ourselves and the Austrians desire to pave the way for the substitution in his place of a Power not under the dominance of Russia. [...] This is to treat traders as a Government might deal with a village of wreckers on a rock-bound coast by compelling them aud their descendants to contribute for the erection and support of a lighthouse to prevent the wrecks on which they petually so interfered notably in the instance of the armed occupation of the Lebanon and the hanging of the P ha responsible for the massacres at Damascus in 1 [...] There is more force in the argument that while certain classes of traders undoubtedly gain from famine traffic the majority of those on whom the license-tax will press derive no profit whaever from that source ; but on the other hand rather lose owing to the general depression in the purchasing power of the people and the greater risks to exporters on account of the dearness of carriage and
