Now we know as a fact that the news of the the outbreak at Meerut reached Agra during the night of the 10th only a few hours after the 3rd Cavalry and the other native regiments Lad broken into open mutiny liberated the 85 men of the cavalry who had been ironed and imprisoned on the Friday broken open the jail set fire to the litres in all directions and massacred every European within their [...] The course of the present Government is unmistakably calculated to awaken and foster in the minds of the educated natives of the country a sense of oppression and a feeling of discontent resting on a belief that the interests of the people of India are a subordinate consideation in the eyes of the Government. [...] The mortgagee or purchaser is of course the money-lender ; and the consequence ia.that the land is passing from the hands of the yeomanry into the clutches of usurers who regard it merely as a profitable investment and iu whose eyes that estate is the best which will endure the most outrageous rack-renting. [...] The accounts not having been completed by the late Managing Agents the books were handed over to the Auditors of the Company who have made them up and closed them ; and the Directors now draw the shareholders' attention to the fact that the valuations of the stock of stores bags cloth &c. [...] Heretofore the custom has been for the Managing Agents to make up the value of the stores at the original cost-price in accordance with a stock-list furnished by the Manager of the Mills and to take the value of the manfactured cloth and bags at the price at which they had been sold or it unsold at the market rate of the day.
