That the funds of the Society after the defrayal of the necessary expenses be deposited in the Government Savings Bank in the name of the Association. [...] That every intending member be required to make a declaration to the following effect "I will assist to the utmost of my power in carrying out the object of the Association without prejudice and partiality." 12 That the members of the Society failing to act up to the declartion or violating the above rules be removed from the Association"RAMA BAI AND THE MAHRATTA LADIES. [...] On the occasion of the visit of the Education Commission to Poona the Arya Mahila Sam* convened a public meeting of Mahratta ladies in the Town Hall to show that although (as the President of the Commission had stated) the Municpality had not encouraged girls' schools a real movement was being made by the best families of the Mahratta country. [...] His Highness the Maharaja of Travancore presided in June last at the Prize Distribution to the Students of the Maharaja's High School and College at Trevandrum and ha made a short address on the occasion containing the folloing valuable remarks in regard to the position and responsbilities of educated native gentlemen :— One of the prominent drawbacks which the general run of educated nat [...] We have had the opportunity to compare the state of health of the prisoners and the mortality in the Calcutta Presidency and in the Alipore jails and we are inclined to think that the latter is inferior in both respects taking all the circumstances into consideration.
