The early establishment of this industry in Bombay was facilitated by abundance of capital and credit facilities the presence of cheap and speedy means of tranport the demand for yarn from China and the natural avantage of the supply of raw materials from the hinterland of the Deccan and Gujarat. [...] The large patronage extended to mills by the Government in respect of their military requirements in cotton goods in the eastern theatres of war together with the shrinkage of Lancashire iports due to preoccupation of Lancashire with war work and the sharp rise in the prices of imported cloth due to shortage of shipping led to a considerable increase in home production. [...] The causes of this change in the sitation are the recurrent breaches in the industrial relations and consequent migration of some of the mills to the neighbouring Indian states where every effort is made to encourage the estblishment of factories. [...] Pradumnächärya of the Chandrakula mentioned in the inscription seems to be the same as that Pradyumnacharya of the Chandrakula who defeated the Digabaras in a philosophical discussion in the court of King Allata.8 According to the ParSvanathacharita of Miltiikyachandrasfiri he was a great logician and Abhayadeva was his pupi1.9 It is hence probable that PradyumnRcharya and King Allatals were [...] The second relates to the general sum of its resources-- its hills and plateaux its plains and valleys the geology of its rocks its flora and fauna the chemistry of its soils —and the bearing of these on the development of its agriculture and industry.
