[...] Starting with the possibility of the existence of Paleolithic man in the oldest crust of the earth's surface (Mysore in the Deccan) the lecturer spoke about the next possibilityeof the15 Iron Age Man being a direct descendent of the Neolithic and said that the present inhabitants were probably descended from the former. [...] After a brief description of the geology palaeontology archaeology and geography of the country he went on to say that the history of Mysore was not a dull narrative of battles fought and won or lost but one of great interest not only from the political aspect but from the point of view of the ethnologist the sociologist and the student of religion and art. [...] The lecturer traced the connection with Mys4re of the Haihayas a foreign tribe of Scythian origin the Saisunagas the Nandas and the Mauryas and of Asoka in particular and then of the various South Indian dynasties too numerous to mention. [...] A summary of these rulers and of Haidar and Tippu with particular reference to the making up of the present territories of Mysore was then given as also an account of the Mysore Commission the rule of Sri Chamrajendra Wadiyar of revered memory the regency of the late lamented Maharani and finally the reign of the present ruler His Highness Sri Krishnaraja Wadiyar an ornament to the illustri
