The Rural India March 1940

1940

By this we do not mean in the least to cast any reflections whatsoever on the entirely and exemplarily patriotic work which each and every one of these organisations is engaged in ding but we merely point to the difficulties in the way of rallying the majority of the actual workers in the field under the banner of any one of these organisations at the present at any rate. [...] The process of reform may be really of the reverse type for the need of the hour is to educate our masters" very much the same that Robert Lowe said in the latter half of the nineteenth century when in England the franchise was widely extended. [...] But today the key to the understanding of the problem is in the awakening of Mass Consciousness to the cardinal issue involved in the problem. [...] Unless and until the same is not applied to increase the indigenous sources in the country and giing protection to them it is never possible to increase the liking for labour in the educated class and to give facility of work to the incresing population in the country as is done in places outside India. [...] Over and above the things already metioned various sciences are now being applied to the art of agriculture and the cultivator all over the world is finding the benefits of this application both in the quantity and the quality of his produce.
