[...] In support of the belief that the Angora goat was originally indigenous to the Himalayas is the fact that remains of this species were obtained from the pliocene rocks of the Siwalik Hills of northern India (Lydekker The Royal Natural History 1894). [...] when a fairly large number of dead hearts are visible the fresh tillers appearing from the diseased shoots are saved from an attack of the pest as the larvae in the diseased shoots are enveloped by the soil heaped up at the base of the shoots by earting and thus prevented from moving on to the healthy shoots.
