[...] Owing to newspaper publicity and to the recent cattle shows held in Delhi there is undoubtedly a growing realization of the importance of this branch of agriculture to the welfare of the states and it is gratifying to note that nearly everywhere interest is being aroused and some endeavour to improve matters is being made by the introduction of breeding bulls the elimination of scrub bulls and [...] Capacity for consumption Since the immediate effect of food is to appease hunger the first consideration in the formulation of a ration is the capacity or the appetite of the animal for the food offered. [...] The actual formation of milk does not require the expenditure of any energy but the energy stored in the various constituents of milk such as sugar fat and casein is large and has to be replenished from the food of the cow. [...] The presence of a minimum amount of fat is necessary for the absorption by the animal's system of some of the essential vitamins such as vitamins A and D. Usually in the commonly-fed rtions the minimum amount of fat requirement is present.
