" A considerable number Ofpersons interested iu politics have no doubt come to doubt this dictum but we believe that the great majority of educationists still hold that the effect of gratuitous education is destructive of the self respect of parents and detrimental to the status of the teacher and to the efficiency of the school. [...] 2 394-15-6: The Principal speaks very highly of the effect of the bank on the 'buys in the practicit gives in the management of practical business as well as in the cultivation of careful habits. [...] The chief work being thus done in the school itself an improvement of the method of teaching is required necessitating (a) a methodical training of the teachers ; (b) an improvement in the social position of the teachers. [...] The final certificate of the Gymnasien is to admit to the study of the various faculties including the clerical and medical professions as well as to the examinations based on those studies for offices in the Civil Service and for the higher branches of Mining Engineering Post Office &c. [...] And this it does by producing the state of mental tension I spoke of above by setting forth in vague outline the nature of the subject that is going to be studied in clearing up some of the language to be used and bringing out an understanding of some of the ideas the whole to be carried on by means of the pupil's own backward searchings among facts already known.
