The Light of the East July 1939

Commentators still dispute as to wheter the public sinner who anointed the feet of Jesus in the house of Simon the Pharisee bathing them with her tears and wiping them with her hair ( Luke vii 36-50 ) was the same person as the Mary Magdalen from whom the Lord " expelled seven devils " (Luke viii 2) and who figures so prominenly in the drama of the Passion and Resurection of the Lor [...] Sadhu Hiranand one of the founders of the Acdemy both by word and example also exercised a silent but potent influence on his thoughts: From the Bralimo Samaj Library he borowed the " Ecce Homo " and from this he THE LIGHT OF THE EAST 130 —"learnt that Christ was the greatest man in the world. [...] The same God is the Author of the Catholic revelation and the Creator of human nature ; the one is made for the other. [...] The means of prduction must be possessed whether sevrally or corporately through the guilds by the units of the State lest they fall for a brief and evil time into the possession of the State itself or at length and more permnently under the control of a restricted dominating class which shall be the masters of all the rest. [...] Father Talbot in his intrduction speaks of a strong thread that binds together all the collected poems " like the golden chain that pierces the beads of the Rosary ". This strong thread is the comon Faith of the poets and the transcedent vision that it procures.
