It ignores that which makes the Church a divine body the mystic Body of Christ of which He is the Head His faithful are the members and the Holy Spirit the Third of the Divine Persons is truly the life-giving principle the soul. [...] He is "the desire of the everlasting hills " " the hope of the nations " the object of every 168 THE LIGHT OF THE EAST"man's inmost though perhaps unconscious aspiration. [...] The Old Testament was -revealed to the Jews the Veda to the Hindus the New Testament again to the Jews nd the Kran to the Arabs. [...] As in nature then " there is first the blade then the ear afterwards the full corn in the ear " so in the spiritual order there is first the little grain of mustard seed "less than all the seeds upon the earth" but which then grows and puts on shoots and branches until all the birds of the air can lodge under its shadow—all in dependence of human co-operation and free will. [...] The only difference between the two editions is the size and the omission of the lengthy preface which gave the reasons why this and not the usual rcension should be considered as the original Imitation.
