The Light of the East April 1942

There is at least one great moral and i53"ternational institution on earth which has not ceased for the last hundred years to constantly remind the peoples and nations of the imminent danger to civilisation of the present neglect of this very natural law and of the urgent necessity to return to it : the Catholic Church speaking through the mouth of its Sovereign Potiffs. [...] So there is some hope after all But in order that thi's hope may be fulfiller and that the nations of the world ma; after the horrible darkness of the presen war witness the dawn of a peace that wil be lasting because it will be fair to al and to each everyone must contribute hi; share to the rebuilding of that jus gen tium of that ' law of the nations ' which the ancients so highly praised. [...] For what do those words mean not indeed in the imagination of men whose knowledge of the Catholic Church is confned to mostly invented tales about " the horrors of Rome " and the misdeeds of the Scarlet Woman ' but in the authentic and carefully defined vocabulary of the Catholic Church and of its accredited eponents ? This can easily be found. [...] Not one small word of his was saved unless it is the Word that was the sum of all his life the precious Word he saved for everyone that It might speak the cross and not the knife long long after he was dead and gone and gathered to his fathers and never again could he spirit the Child and the young girl His mother out of the dangerous city. [...] The name under which Pride walks the earth in the present moment is the Perfecibility of Man or the Doctrine of Progress ; and its speciality is the making of bluprints for Utopia and establishing the Kingdom of Man on earth.
