The rapid development of telephones is a mark of commercial activity and the acceptance by the Government of India of a petty target of 100 000 more telephones in the course of fifteen years is only a mesure of the defeatism which prevails in our minds. [...] The determination to enforce a uniform wage policy is reiterated clearly in the Railway Board reply and the principle has now been firmly established that the general basis of the recommendations of the Cetral Pay Commission for the Railways cannot be alteed. [...] On the other hand the Railwaymen will need to think cf others beside themselves if they are to deserve some consderation at the hands of the Government as well as of the country as a whole." [...] America wants to put forth a proposal which will have the effect of enabling Holland to raise the production of tin in the Far East to the pre-war level The permission of the Study Group will be sought for a plan whereby Holland is to be allowed to receive all sort of assistance from the U. S. to augment tin output.
