The goal of the United Nations action in Korea after the aggresor was repulsed was the unification of the two Koreas by the obliteration of the 38th parallel—not only as a worthy end in itself but also because that alone would remove the potential sources of conflict in the future between the two parts the peoples of which would by continued separation inevitably drift so far apart in thei [...] Envoy from Bao Dai DURING the last two weeks Nguyen Duy Thanh the official envoy of the Viet-Nam Government of IndChina has been in New Delhi on a mission to explain to the Indian public the desire of that Govern-tient to obtain the sympathy and support of the Government of India and the Indian people. [...] The continuance of the vestiges of French sovereignty like mixed courts for trial of French citizens and the refusal of the March agreement to contemplate the establisment of independent diplomatic relations by Viet-Nam indicated the lack of any desire on the part of the French to grant anything more than internal autonomy to the states of Indo-China. [...] The very fact that this is the eleventh of the Conferences organised by the Institute might bear this out but time is also of the essence of some problems and co-operation of the kind which the East expects-- an invitation to underwrite the Sydney Plan for eample—cannot be ignored simply because the East and particularly Far Eastern politics is not readily undestood in the West. [...] This willingnesto judge and pronounce on the results of the pact indcates the glaring inadequacy of protection in practice in East Bengal—a circumstance which can no longer be ignored for the reason that the commitments under the Delhi Pact to restore the property of returning immigrants may affect very seriously the pace of rhabilitation in West Bengal.
