Iran The End of a Chapter WITHOUT either hesitations about the opposition offered to the British by the drastic and unilateral decision to abrogate the agreement of 1933 with the Anglo-Iranian or doubts of Iranian capacity to take over and run the business of extracting refining and marketing the vast oil reserves the Iranian Parliment has carried its objects to their logical conclusion by e [...] These factors provide bargaining points for the Anglo-Iranian and it is apparently the exploration of future working arrangements—by which the AnglIranian can continue to handle these aspects of the business as an agent of the Iranian Government and under the general control of a statutory Board—that fored the subject of the talks with the British Ambassador. [...] MORE SUSPENSE ON FOOD AID The U. S. Congress has apparently found in Pandit Nehru's broadcast speech fresh reasons for prolonging the state of suspense over the food grant to India; in the light of the various reasons given from time to time for protracting the passage of food aid even in the face of the Indian famine it was only to be expeced that the vague statement of the Prime Minister abo [...] THE STOCKPILE AND THE SCRAMBLE The allocation of 100 000 tons of sulphur to the U. K. for the second quarter has served to take the edge off the serious criticism levelled against American alloction of raw materials for the European defence effort. [...] Since the primary function of the Commission would in practice be to arbitrate on the claims of the States on the Centre for allocation of better shares of the divsible taxes it was necessary firstly to ensure that the persons who will owe their appointment to the Presdent on the advice of the Government of India should not be inclined to favour the Union.
