THE EASTERN ECONOMIST THE WEEK'S NOTES 'THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY'S RECORD The record of achievement of the United Nations General Assembly at Paris sounds formidable on a perusal of the statistical details of the work of the various sessions. [...] The Disarmament Commission now established with the consent of both the East and the West is the outcome of quite a pious aspiration but few would epect it to get down to brass tacks and answer the crucial question of the armed strength which each major Power should keep at the end of the proposed disarmament. [...] The reason for the change of Soviet policy since is obviously the set-back to the spread of Communism in Italy during the last few years after the Treaty. [...] This is based on the theory that the security of the canal must depend on a regional pact of the Arab States with the British supplying the equipment. [...] This is the character of all the parties now but a coalition With the Communists may not be to the liking of all the members of the K.M.P.
