THE EASTERN ECONOMIST 531 Tempers in Tunisia THE developments in Tunisia during the last few weeks have again taken a torn for the worse and the latest among them is the deci ion of the AraAsian countries to approach the Security Council to intervene in the interests of peace. [...] The Commission's awareness of the seriousness of the prolslern of holding the cost of living was greater and more consistent with :he anti-inflationary aspects of the Plan than the reckless decLion of the Government to victimise the urban consumer regardless of the consequences. [...] In the present case the High Court and the Supreme Court have concurred in rcording a finding of unwarranted executive interfeence with a fundamental right which is an extremely gratifying sign of the strength of the judiciary In their obiter dicta the Judges of the Supreme Court have taken special care to reiterate that the courts have been expressly designated as the custdians of the [...] But even more signficant are the remarks on the question of the extent to which Courts can accept the judgment of the executive on the reasonableness of the restrictions imposed on the citizen. [...] The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court has now made the observation that this subjective satisfaction of the executive can under the express powers conferred by the Constitution on the judiciary to act as a sentinel of the rights be amitted only in the most exceptional circumstances.
