The discussions of the Anglo-American powers who are responsible for the military occupation of Trieste under the Italian Peace Treaty with Italy arise out of the recent disturbancca in Trieste's Western Zone for the return of the whole of Trieste to Italy. [...] A RUDE JOLT TO THE COST OF LIVING The effect of the increase in the issue prices of rationed cereals in the cities following the abolition of the food subsidy has been to administe: a severe shock. [...] The former went to the length of making a statement to the effect that "it has been found that the subsidy does not make any significant contribution to the lowering of the cost of living in the industrial towns" while the latter somewhat inconsistently with this view forecast a rise of only three per cent in the cost of living.
