This inscription gives the following genealogy of the Kings of Lalitapattana in Nepal which may be linked up with that given in the inscription of A. D. 1723 *MRS a tilt itnntqw (married to EsTIPRO ) RAI% (ruling in A. D. 1637).' 1 The last two lines of verse 3 of the Inscription of A. D. 1723 corroborate the following lines in verses zo and 21 of Sabhavinoda : — "LiCTITNTN: f01‘416 INI+I I gi [...] This was only some years after the realization of Meiji Restoration in which the abolition of Buddhism as a national religion was emphasized as one of the general principles and it was thought undesirable that a lecture-course of Buddhism should be held in the national University so the course of Buddhist study was introduced under the name Indian Philosophy". [...] That is why in India the Head of a State has always been looked upon not only as a mere political figure-head but as the head of the family and society in the truest and most intimate sense of the term. [...] That is the main reason why in India with the change in the political arena and the consequent belief whether right or wrong in a corresponding change in the nature of the king as a father and a protector the very social laws relating specially to those who need protection viz. [...] from that of Manu flourishing in about the Ist Century A. D. a lamentable downward trend in women's progress started in right earnest opening the flood-gate to a series of social evils like Child-marriage denial of proper education and just rights to women widow-burning polygamy in the form of Kulina-pratha or the practice of marrying hundreds of wives at the same time and so on.
