(2) the nature and scope of the efforts for counteracting the shortage; this should iclude information on the substitutes found improvisations successfully adopted and the attempts of the struggling scientific instrments industry to serve the needs of research (3) chances of survival of the existing industry during the post-war period and ( 4) a plan for the consolidation and epansion of [...] The general objects of this commtitee are "to secure scientific co-opertion in tackling the emergency problems of the immediate post-war period and to ensure that the most should be made of our common scientific resources after the war for improing both scientific knowledge itself and the life of the peoples of the Empire." Prof A. V. Hill is an eminent physiologist and his research laborat [...] It was but in the fitness of things therefore that the Board of Scientific and Industrial Research subsidised a scheme of research into the preparation of gland products on the results of which the present article is based. [...] The following table Table VII gives the average weight of the pituitary gland and the ratio of the anterior to the posterior lobe in the glands of cattle sheep and pigs obtained from the local slaughter house. [...] There is little chance however of the industry surviving the serious competition from the drug houses of Europe and America after the War unless our slaughteries are fully organized in the meantime and a thorough study of the problems of storage and transport of the glands in Indian climates is made.
