“His long service as Deputy Chairman of the Calcutta Corportion and later as Land Acquisition Officer of the 24-Pergannas and as Legal Remembrancer to the Government had made his name familiar as that of a sympathetic officer and during his career alas all too short on the Bench his reputation was enhanced by the quickness with which he grasped the essentials of the cases brought before him. [...] A book of this type will be really helpful to the framers of the future constitution of India and students of Constitutional Law may profitably utilise the book in grasping the principles of the present Indian Constitution. [...] Against the order of the learned SesSions Judge the High Court was moved and the matter came on for hearing before Coutts Trotter C. J. and Madhatran Nair / The learned Sessions Judge in this case was much influenced by the decision of the Magistrate and really did little more than to examine whether there was anything to invalidate the convition by the Magistrate. [...] Before the Full Bench the question was— Do the words any such statement" in the first paragraph of clause (r) of section 162 of the Criminal Procedure Code cover only written statements or oral statements as well ? Held ( Per Ramesean Waller and Jackson ff.) that the words "shall any such statement be used" in the first paragraph of sec. [...] Sir Benode is ever reputed in the Bar as a lawyer of exceptional abilities possessing ready and up-to-date knowledge of practice and procedure and understanding of the complexities of law as to be known generally as the Walking Encyclopaedia." In 1910 he was made the Standing Counsel to the Government of Bengal and was nominated a member of the Bengal Legislative Council.
