Professor W. A. Herdman is succeeded in the presidency of the association by Sir Edward Thorpe emeritus professor of chemistry in the Imperial College of Science The Viceroy on Training of Teachers said : In every country of the civilised world men are busy at the task of reconstruction and in all lands it is recognised that on the right education of its children depends the happiness and prospe [...] During the administration of Dewan Bahadur M. Krishnan Nair a large and representative committee of officials and non-officials was appointed by the Durbar for the purpose of considering and reporting on the question of the desirability and the practicability of starting a University in the State and the appropriate constitution of such a University if the committee found that the scheme was both [...] It is possible says the Hindu that the holding over of a decision on so imporant a report has been due to the change in the headship of the administration which occurred soon after the submission of the report to the Durbar. [...] AT a meeting of the Managing Committee of the Khalsa College Amrisar on the loth October last the Chairman submited a letter from the local Government drawing attention to the possibility of utiliing the Khalsa College as nucleus of future Sikh University and asking for examination of the question and the submission of reconiendations. [...] EUROPE'S DECLINE AND FALL Many of the sanest thinkers in Europe and many of her most eminent writers are asking the question openly in the light of recent events and in the face of all the destruction wrought by the Great War whether the dcline and fall of the new Empire of the West has not already begun.
