In case of the failure of the guaranteed railway company to raise the amount of capital authorised and guaranteed for purposes of construction or of proper application of such funds or of proper execution of the works or of proper working of the railway the Government has power upon three months' notice to terminate the interest othe company in the railway ; and within six rfionthe after [...] The Government has power when purchasing or accepting the surrender of the railways instead of paying the gross price to commute it by the payment of an annuity from the time when the price should have Wen payable to the end of the ninety-nine years' contract. [...] From the outset of railway operations in India the Government assumed the power of fixing the routes of' all the raiways ; and at the beginning of the system of promotion by guarantee certain trunk lines were laid down to be made which while they could be of commercial value would ale() improve the political and military communications of the country by connecting the three presidencies b [...] This is the first change ; and a second change is that the Government relinquishes the right of purcha'ing the railways at the end of the first 25 years so that the railways are secured in the continuance of the concession for a second period of 25 years. [...] The following Parliamentary Return exhibits the amount sanctioned for the Home Establishments of the different Guarateed Railway Companies in India and the manner of its disbursement ; distinguishing the sum allowed to the Board of Directors and the stalls paid to the Managing Director Secretary Consulting Engineer and Auditors and for the Office Establishment.
