[...] In their earlier years the banks were dubbed stock-jobbing concerns of a questionable character" and were accused of promoting a host of unsound and speculative concerns endangering not only their own property but also the property entrusted to them.1 In the beginning of the present century there was a widespread feeling that the deposits of the public in the big credit banks should be safeguard [...] The decline in the size of securities and syndicate participtions continued indicating the revolution in the business of the credit banks.
