And we feel sure that if this is not possible there is no strength in the argument regard ing the belief in the preparation of the soul in morality because the principle of it would be the very same only the difference will be in the nature of it. [...] Without raising a discussion here as to the tripartite nature of the human soul we may only remark that the first part of the quotation has a b.aring of a universal character whereas the latter is the Christian theory advocated in the Romans and other hooks of the Bible according to which the freedom from the flesh brings on an emancipation from which proceeds the glorious result of guiding ene [...] The idea suggested is like that of Nirvan of the Buddhistic Faith the difference between the two being tha in the one case the identity of the soul is preserved and in the other it is lost in one great soul as a rain drop become: traceless in the ocean's expanse. If therefore the soul had a previous existence and the sultant effect of thoughts and actions there has been produced [ion it ; the numbness at the beginning with the inherent though [...] The morning the day and the evening represent three divisions when the soul is in the child in the man and in the maturity of age; and as no sun would rise to gladden the morning if it did not exist the night before so no soul would manifest itself in the world if it did not live before.
