He referred by way of illustration to the fear lest the ghost should return to injure the living and to the belief in the efficacy of water as a means of preventing such return. [...] He referred especially to the rites of the Wiimnuirga in Sakti-worship and to the dedication of dancing-girls to the service of the temple e. g. the Marlis at Jejuri in the Deccan a shrine which had not yet been described. [...] As regarded anatomical relationg it would be the duty of the Society to collect statistics regarding the capacity of the human skull and other measurements of the human frame - among the various castes and races of the Indian Empire. [...] It was an interesting illustration of the law of ontogenesis or embryonic evolution of the individual which according to Hackel was a rapid recapitulation of phylogenesis or the evolution of the tribe to which it belonged determined by the fundamental laws of heredity and adaptation. [...] From this batch of boys the magician proceeds to select one for the purpose of acting as the channel of communication between him and the King of the Jinns who is supposed to be consulted regarding the subjecmatter of the enquiry.
