The attention of the general public is drawn to the fact that the rates of income-tax and super-tax with the addition in each case of one-twelfth of the amount of the rate which were in force in Burma during the financial dear commencing on the 1st April 1937 have been extended for another year up to the 31st March 1939 by sub;sectiCriS (1) and (2) of section 6 of the Burma Finance Act. [...] The following are extracts from the Annual Administration Report of the Department of Industries Bengal on the sugar soap and weaving industries in all of which Burma as another predominantly agricultural country is vitally interested :- Sugar mill Incluslry.— The sugar mill industry which received a great fillip from the protective policy of the Government of India has made some headway in Be [...] however a problem that confronts the cultivator as well as the mill owner and is a serious obstacle in the way of expansion of cultivation or the utilizatien of the crop for the purpose of sugar manufacture. [...] The imposition of the new excise duty and the institution of an enquiry by the Tariff Board on the question of protection after the expiry of the present protective tariff are notable events concerning the industry in the year under review (1936-37)." Soap lnduslry.—" Availability of vegetable oils in abundance of almost every description offers great possibilities for the development of soap manu [...] The wcrking of the demonstration parties has also helped many others in starting small factories with a view to earning a living.""
