The Radical Humanist Formerly Independent India - Organ of the Radical Humanist Movement June 5 1949

1949

It has been one of the creeds of the nationalist Movement that separate electorates introduced in the Indian constitutional system by the British rulers were responsible for the growth of comunalism and separatist tendencies and the eventual partition of the country. [...] In spite of the partition and 1 the going over to Pakistan of the most irreconcilable of the coflicting groups the rest of the country namely post-independence India is not any the less disunited and divided. [...] The cause of the sec h the social philosophy was the ambiguity about the gi.ion of morality. It started with the excellent principle that the individual was a moral entity and as such sovereign. [...] The collectivist ridicule of the idea of individual freedcm corresponded with the exprience of the bulk of the community. [...] But the rest and especially the peasants who are the most important as well as far the largest element in the population await the advent of the Communists with resignation.
