[...] Illustrative matter should not be sent in the form of unarranged drawings or photographs but be definitely arranged or allocated by the author as so many text:figures or plates as the case may be having due regard to the size and shape of the page of the Journal and the capacity of the drawings or photos for reduction. [...] The biochemical studies that have been carried out in kala-azar in the past have consisted principally of the investigations of the plasmproteins including the qualitative and the quantitative changes in the albumin and the globulin fractions some investigations on the pH of blood and the variations of the blood sugar and calcium in a few cases (for a summary of the biochemical findings see N [...] In 1945 an investigation on the biochemical changes in kala-azar particularly the functional status of the various organs was initiated at the School of Tropical Medicine Calcutta and in this paper the first of a series proposed to be published on this subject the results of the tests pf hepatic function in kala-azar are presented. [...] parasitization and marked proliferation of the Kupffer cells that lead to a marked alteration of the pattern of the hepatic lobule variable degrees of fatty degeneration of the parenchyma cells increase of the connective tissue in the late stages vascular engorgement to a variable degree etc.
