Of the sixty-seven University candidates three passed in the First Class and sixteen in the second ; of the nine Scottish Church candidates two passed in the First Class and five in the second. [...] The novelty of a Shavian play is the novelty of the trumpet and the cart—of self-advertisement. [...] The preface at the beginning of "Back to Methuselah" is the best essay written on the theory of evolution and that of "Androcles and the Lion" is an admirable explanation of Christianity. [...] I am the hymn of Dawn the breath of night and the scent of purest flowers ; I am sacred in myriads of invisible shapes and laugh at the mean and base things of the world. [...] In the year 1914 when that fatal War broke out with the whole of Europe practically with the whole of the world being interested and engaged in it the course of action the combative parties took up was novel in the annals of history.
