From his study of the composition of rocks and of their degradtion products the geologist may also be of Soils service to the agriculturist in enabling him to understand the distribution of the different types of soil the conditions of their formation and the depths to which they may persist. [...] From his knowledge of the conditions of occurrence of minerals and of the variations in their composition Mineral policy and distributions and consequently of the methods of work suitable to each case and also from his knowledge of the quantities of mineral available the geologist is able with confidence to advise Government upon the desirability and practcability of regulations to control [...] The object of the German chambers of commerce is according to the wording of the law to look after the whole of the interests of trademen and persons engaged in industry in their respective districts and especially to assist the authorities in the promotion of trade and industries by information motions and expert opinions.". Besides these' functions they are competent to appoint arbit [...] In the writer's opinion the development of mining and of the mineral resources of the Presdency should be regarded in the absence of a provincial deparment of mines as one of the most important functions of the Deparment of Industries : the collection of royalties need not on that account be undertaken by the Director of Industries any more than it is necessary that the sanitary arrang [...] It should be one of the functions of the provincial department of industries to collect and place at the disposal of the public fuller information than may be available in the existing publications of the Government of India regarding the resources of the province and its industrial products and possibilities and on matters which may affect the selection of a site for the establishment of a facto
